Clemson Tigers' Offense Just Took Another Massive Hit

The Clemson Tigers' offense just took a big hit before facing the Syracuse Orange.

The Clemson Tigers dropped 36 points in a win over the Florida State Seminoles last Saturday, representing a breakout offensive performance for the club.

Unfortunately, Clemson's offense just received some bad news.

Head coach Dabo Swinney has revealed that running back Gideon Davidson will not play against the Syracuse Orange this weekend and could miss multiple games due to what he called a "not great" injury situation.

Davidson is dealing with a sprained ankle he sustained versus Florida State and will be replaced by Jarvis Green as the starting halfback this Saturday.

Chris Johnson Jr. will step in as the primary backup.

Davidson got off to a brilliant start in 2026, racking up back-to-back 100-yard games in Weeks 3 and 4. That included a 159-yard, two-touchdown performance in a win over California on Sept. 25.

Since then, however, Davidson's production has slipped.

Over his last four contests, Davidson has accumulated just 182 rushing yards, averaging four yards per carry.

Against the Seminoles last weekend, the sophomore playmaker carried the ball 12 times for 36 yards.

Regardless, Davidson's absence will be a massive blow for a Clemson offense that has struggled all season long and has relied heavily on its ground game.

Up until the victory over Florida State, Tait Reynolds had thrown just one touchdown pass on the campaign, which came all the way back in Week 3 versus North Carolina.

Reynolds did throw a couple of touchdown tosses against the Noles, which was hopefully enough to get Clemson's aerial attack going moving forward.

Of course, Reynolds threw for under 200 yards for the third straight game, so the Tigers' passing game is still a very clear concern.

Green definitely showed some flashes at Tallahassee, toting the rock nine times for 37 yards. Johnson had just five carries for three yards and has been a tremendous disappointment since being acquired via the transfer portal last winter.

Perhaps the injury to Davidson will force Clemson to use Johnson a bit more, and the former SMU standout will be able to utilize his burst and explosiveness for a big game or two.

The Tigers are also hoping for more from wide receivers T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco, both of whom have been very quiet in 2026 and combined for just seven receptions and 69 yards last weekend.

One thing is for sure: someone will need to step up to cover the loss of Davidson against a Syracuse squad that is coming off of back-to-back impressive wins.
