Former Clemson Tigers star Peter Woods had made a decision on his NFL contract.

Former Clemson Tigers star defensive tackle Peter Woods has agreed to a four-year, $18 million fully guaranteed rookie contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs selected Woods with the 29th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after he put together a solid career with the Tigers.

In 2023, Woods finished with 26 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. He followed it up in 2024 by finishing with 28 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble.

That was Woods' breakout season, and he came into 2025 projected to be an early first-round pick. However, he wasn't as dominant in 2025, as he had 30 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks.

Woods has shown the potential to be an elite defensive tackle, but he has struggled to be consistent during his time at Clemson.

That was a common theme for the Tigers in the 2025 season, as they struggled and finished with a 7-6 record. Like Woods, Clemson entered the season with lofty expectations, as they were among the favorites to win the National Championship entering the season.

However, despite the talent on the roster, including Woods and eight others selected in the NFL Draft, Dabo Swinney and the Tigers couldn't put it all together.

That led to some aggressive changes from Swinney this offseason, including the firing of offensive coordinator Garrett Riley and the hiring of Chad Morris for his second stint with the Tigers. Swinney also brought in Rich Bisaccia as the special teams coordinator.

While the changes to the coaching staff will be crucial for Clemson's turnaround, they will need players like Christopher Vizzina to step up to fill the void left by players headed to the NFL, like Cade Klubnik.

The 2026 season has some question marks for the Tigers, but their recruiting for 2027 and beyond gives some promise that they could become contenders again in the near future.

While Swinney will look to lead Clemson on a bounce-back season, Woods will be making his impact on the Chiefs' defensive line alongside Chris Jones.
