The Clemson Tigers appear to be closing in on this top recruit.

The Clemson Tigers are no longer an outright dynamo on the recruiting trail. In fact, they have struggled mightily in that area over the last couple of years.

Gone are the days where seemingly every top recruit under the sun had Clemson as a finalist. The Tigers simply aren't that dominant anymore, so any time they can land an exciting prospect, it's worth noting.

And while Clemson has not yet landed four-star running back Gary Walker, it's abundantly clear from Walker's comments that the Tigers are at or near the very top of his list.

“The great relationship I have with coach [Chad] Morris and coach [CJ] Spiller and the entire staff, while they’ve only offered two other running backs,” Walker told TigerNet. “I feel they have a great plan for me.”

But clearly, Walker's visit to Clemson has resonated with him, especially because of the rapport her built with Spiller.

“It’s been great,” Walker said of the relationship with Spiller. “They’ve said to go through the recruiting process and break down everything before you make a decision, so no matter where you go, you have no regrets.”

Walker is the seventh-ranked running back and 144th-ranked player overall in the class of 2027, via 247 Sports' composite rankings. He has received offers from 33 schools in total, including Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Penn State and Tennessee.

The six-foot, 200-pound weapon has an official visit scheduled with the Tigers on May 29, a meeting sandwiched between four other official visits: Stanford (May 22), Virginia Tech (June 5), Penn State (June 12) and Florida State (June 19).

Walker has yet to set a commitment date, so while he is certainly making progress in the recruiting process, there is obviously a long way to go before he makes a decision.

He racked up 1,669 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns during his junior season at Creekside, establishing himself as one of the top rushers in the country.

Clemson has secured seven commitments for the class of 2027, with only two of them (linebacker Bryce Kish and wide receiver Trey Wimbley) being of the four-star variety.
