As a gambling scandal rocks Texas Tech, the Buffaloes could pivot to high-stakes showdowns against former rivals, SEC powerhouses, or old foes like Oregon to salvage their schedule.
With Texas Tech fighting to keep Brendan Sorsby on the field after admitting to numerous gambling violations, some Big 12 schools are talking about the possibility of boycotting games involving the Red Raiders.
The Colorado Buffaloes are scheduled to host Tech on Oct. 3 and are idle the following week. While there has been no indication of any changes, if there were some type of replacement opponent coming, the list of possible teams is very interesting. Here are 10 scenarios to consider if Colorado does drop Texas Tech from the 2026 football schedule.
Duke Blue Devils (Oct. 3)
The defending ACC champions would be an interesting match-up for Colorado. Last year's title came by a wild and crazy route for Duke and another Power Four opponent would test Sanders and the Buffs to see where they're truly at in the middle of the season.

Oregon Ducks (Oct 3)
We all witnessed the one and only time Sanders and the Buffs went up to Eugene and got embarrassed back in 2023. Dan Lanning pumped his team up with the "They're playing for clicks" speech in the locker room before the game. A rematch would be fun to watch, but I highly doubt it would ever happen during the regular season.
Oklahoma Sooners (Oct. 3)
You remember when Oklahoma coach Brent Venables had words for Deion Sanders after he was hired? This could be a redemption game for Colorado against an old conference foe in Norman.
Mississippi State Bulldogs (Oct. 10)
Speaking of SEC, this one would be very interesting. Two of Deion Sanders' former assistants, Vincent Dancy and Phil Loadholt, are coaching in Starkville. A meeting of the minds with Coach Prime returning to the State of Mississippi. Could you imagine the type of buzz that would create for ticket sales? Get your cowbells ready.
UCLA Bruins (Oct. 3)
This one brings some intriguing takeaways. Another Rose Bowl game with a possible recruiting pitch to California recruits. UCLA has been overhauled with Bob Chesney taking over after a roller-coaster year. Could this be a momentum-boosting game for Colorado against a vulnerable Big Ten opponent?

Clemson Tigers (Oct. 10)
Dabo Swinney vs. Deion Sanders would be an underrated match-up on the fly. Both coaches bring swagger in different ways, and it would be a great test for Colorado. Also, if the Buffs give up a home game, what's better than visiting Death Valley?
Miami Hurricanes (Oct. 10)
This game would be a dream for some and a nightmare for others. Mario Cristobal and Deion Sanders fought over recruits during his time in Boulder. On signing day in 2023, then five-star Canes commit Cormani McClain left Cristobal's entire staff at the altar and was on a plane to Colorado. He eventually left CU for Florida and the rest is history, but there's still some heat there.

Colorado State Rams (Oct. 10)
Deion Sanders vs. Jim Mora Jr. would be the Rocky Mountain Showdown we all want to see. CSU wasn't up for the task under Jay Norvell, but this is a perfect storm combo of two rival teams. Move the game to Mile High Stadium and give the people what they want.
SMU Mustangs (Oct. 10)
Sanders and the Buffs down in Dallas against Deion Sanders Jr's alma mater? Might as well talk the Jones family into letting SMU host a home game at AT&T Stadium. If you had Coach Prime in Atlanta and Dallas in the same season, what's better than that?

Jackson State Tigers (Oct. 31)
Let's watch Colorado go up against Coach Prime's former school. Why not?
The only way this could happen is if Kansas State moves the Halloween game in Boulder up to Oct. 3 to replace Texas Tech. Jackson State would give up a bye week for a pay day. Let the Tigers come to Boulder and make it a week to remember with the band preforming for halftime. The southern recruits would be able to watch Coach Prime go to work. Give him his theme music.
