After the Georgia Tech win, Jon Scheyer said that he didn't think it was realistic to expect Duke to just roll through every opponent due to a wide point spread. Duke was a 27.5 point favorite against the Yellow Jackets and it was neck and neck the whole way. We'll see what it looks like as the Blue Devils come into today against FSU as 14.5 point favorites.
The last time Duke faced Florida State without Leonard Hamilton as the Seminoles’ head coach was on February 7th of 2002. Carlos Boozer, the father of current Blue Devils Cameron and Cayden, played in that game. That's what a run it had been for Coach Hamilton.
Luke Loucks is now the head coach of the Seminoles after spending a small handful of years as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings. Florida State under his leadership is 7-7, so far, coming off of a 79-66 loss to the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
One of the main storylines to watch for the Blue Devils will be who will be the latest to enter the starting lineup. Against Georgia Tech, Cayden Boozer made his first start for Duke and it was the first time brothers were in the starting lineup for the Devils since the Plumlee brothers back in 2011-12.
The issue is, Duke has had very little continuity with that final starting spot. Sometimes it has been Dame Sarr. Sometimes it's been Nik Khamenia. Wednesday against the Jackets it was Cayden Boozer.
After the game, Jon Scheyer said that it is still something they're trying to figure out and is "far from settled" They're trying to figure out what rotation gives them the most offensive explosion.
It's more evidence that, while even though they have a 12-1 record, Duke has scrapped and clawed their way to several wins this year as opposed to dominating and blowing out most of their opponents last year.
This game will be broadcast in CBS at 3:45pm ET and it will be the Florida State debut in Tallahassee for one Bill Raftery.
