What an exciting night it was for Cameron Boozer, the former Duke star who heard his name called third overall after being selected by the Memphis Grizzlies.
There was certainly an expectation that he was going to be selected by the Grizzlies, and it's awesome to see that he got what he wanted. If there's one thing that Boozer has proven to us over the past year, it's that he's a hard-working young man who has a real opportunity to change things up for an organization.
He continues to prove that he's willing to put in the work day in and day out, and that's exactly why Grizzlies fans are going to love him.
Sadly, Duke fans won't be able to see him in a Blue Devils jersey anymore, but they'll all be able to give him love in Memphis. Recently, speaking to reporters about what he expects to bring to the organization in Memphis, the young man sounded hopeful about this roster, which many believe actually has a chance to be one of the more interesting in the NBA.
“Yeah, I play a physical brand of basketball,” Boozer told reporters at Barclays Center after being picked by Memphis, per The Athletic, “and I think that’s a winning brand of basketball. I’m super excited to get there and be with those guys. They have a young core, and I believe they have three picks in the draft as well.
“So it’s going to be a lot of fun, for sure.”
Boozer has the upper hand, as he understands what it takes to play at the highest level because his father, Carlos Boozer, has already done so.
He spoke to reporters about what his father has meant to him throughout this journey, and it sounds like the Boozer father knows exactly what every young man should know in a process like this, which is to take it all in and really enjoy yourself because of how big of a moment it truly is.
“To stay present,” Boozer said. “Every day is an opportunity to get better and attack the day. A lot of times you look forward, ten years, five years down the line, but capitalize on today and you’re probably better off than if you were looking forward.”
