College Basketball Analyst Predicts Bright Future for Duke Freshman cover image

If there was ever a person you need to get college basketball advice from, it’s Jon Rothstein.

If there was one phrase to describe Rothstein, look no further than the description on his website College Hoops Today. It describes him as “college basketball’s hungriest insider,” who serves as a content creator for FanDuel and an analyst for CBS Sports.

No, this isn’t a column to pump Rothstein’s tires, but as one of the more attuned college basketball personalities, there’s no one else who has their finger on the pulse than him.

Just this past Tuesday, Rothstein spent time at Duke’s practice, and afterwards he sent out a post on X saying “Dame Sarr. Buy stock now.”

We covered Sarr initially in a piece highlighting Duke’s five incoming freshman, but having another set of eyes to watch him practice is a game changer not just for the future of the season, but Duke’s overall outlook.

He’s a lanky body who can run the floor with tremendous speed. While his shot release can sometimes come off a little slow, it’s still effective and he can make 3-pointers efficiently.

Either way, he’ll serve as a massive need on the perimeter after losing Kon Kneuppel to the NBA Draft.

Sarr had started his career playing professionally for FC Barcelona, but that stint didn’t last long after a breach of contract issue. In April of 2025, Sarr had requested to travel to Portland, Oregon for the Nike Hoops Summit, even after Barcelona denied his request.

Shortly after the incident, both parties had agreed to part ways, which ultimately led to Sarr getting recruited from colleges across America – where Duke eventually won his services.

Rothstein posted a video after practice at Cameron Indoor and raved about Sarr’s ability to turn his defense into offense, as well as his consistent perimeter game.

“Cam Boozer was a known commodity. Caleb Foster and Isaiah Evans were known commodities… But the talented Sarr right now looks like a projected favorite to potentially start for the Blue Devils at small forward… But Sarr was absolutely sensational today over the last 45 minutes of practice today. His defense created offense, and he also comfortably made open 3s in the corner.”

He may not be one of the more well known prospects, but he was a five-star prospect for a reason who has tremendous length and ability.

So even though it may be October, it’s never too early to buy stock in a 6-foot-8 winger who can shoot. And if Rothstein’s projections stand true, we’ll see Sarr starting for the Blue Devils rather quickly.
