Coach John Scheyer commends Duke's focused execution and dominance inside after a massive blowout win, highlighting key offensive strengths and defensive discipline.

Duke Basketball Coach Makes Statement on Team Discipline After Blowout Win

No. 1 Duke didn't allow any letdown against a down Notre Dame team on Tuesday night.

Following an impressive win over Michigan on Saturday, the Blue Devils pounded the Fighting Irish from the start to earn a 100-56 win in front of 9,149 fans at Purcell Pavilion.

Duke took a 54-22 lead into halftime. Cameron Boozer earned a game-high 24 points to go along with 13 rebounds, three steals and two assists.

During his postgame news conference, Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer praised his team for showing discipline against the Irish.

"I was really proud of the discipline we showed. (Braeden) Shrewsberry has been a really dangerous player," Scheyer said, via the Fayetteville Observer. "He had the game ball before the game because he scored over 1,000 points and he's only a junior...

"They have really good off-ball movement, so you have to have good discipline, staying in stance, pursuing them off their screens. And you also have to close with a high hand, make them dribble, and know they can hit really tough shots as well."

Duke improved to 26-2 overall and 14-1 in ACC play.

While the Blue Devils shot 36 percent from beyond the arc, Scheyer was impressed with what his offense did in the paint. Duke scored 30 points in the paint, dominating the Irish's inside defenders.

"That's the strength of our team," Scheyer said of the paint. "If we can establish that early, it's what we want.

"I thought the 3-point shooting followed the ability to establish the paint. Shot 50 percent in the first half, we shot not great in the second half, but I thought we got great looks."

Notre Dame was an easy test for Duke amid two tough opponents. The Blue Devils knocked off then-No. 1 Michigan on Saturday.

On Feb. 28, Duke will host No. 11 Virginia. The Cavaliers are 13-2 in ACC play and 26-2 overall. It could be a matchup preview for the ACC championship.

Duke has proven they have the discipline to be a deep contender in the NCAA Tournament, but they'll have to be consistent if they want to cut nets in March and April.
