The Duke Basketball program is hosting a big recruiting target over the weekend with the chance to close the deal.
The Duke Blue Devils have begun practice for the upcoming 2026-27 college basketball season. With tipoff just over a month away, it won't be long before the new season is underway. And the excitement is high.
For the Blue Devils, they are coming off another Elite Eight Appearance. But it ended with them blowing a 19-point lead to UConn and another year falling short of their goals. As we go into this year, this Duke roster might be the best they have had under Jon Scheyer.
They don't have a Cameron Boozer or Cooper Flagg but they return four of their six top scorers and welcome in the top overall recruiting class.
Now, this weekend they have the opportunity to make a big impact in a future recruit as he will be on a visit.
Duke is expected to host five-star small forward Asa Montgomery for his official visit this weekend. The Blue Devils have been heavily involved in this recruitment as of late and even made a good impression with an in-home visit recently.
Recruiting experts Adam Finkelstein and Eric Bossi recently broke down some big recruits in the 2027 class, including Montgomery. They mentioned how the in-home visit may have put Duke in the lead.
Bossi noted that he's heard the in-home with Scheyer was a home run, which is great news for Duke. He also added that schools that are involved for Montgomery are a little worried about the Blue Devils coming in and winning this recruitment, which has happened before under Scheyer.
Among the schools involved, Montgomery has taken visits to LSU, Florida, UConn, and North Carolina. Duke would love to be able to take the lead in this recruitment and spoil it for a rival Tar Heels' program.
With Montgomery visiting, Scheyer and his staff could really do some damage with this visit.
Duke's 2027 class doesn't have a ton of big targets
Duke has just one player committed in the 2027 class as Kager Kneuppel committed over the Summer. It's not expected to be a big class in terms of size for Duke and they may take one or two more players at this point.
But the targets are also limited, which is what makes Montgomery such a big deal for the program. Getting a nice frontcourt commitment would be huge for the Blue Devils to go along with the Knueppel commitment.
