This Duke Blue Devils breakout star has made a major decision for 2026.

The Duke Blue Devils actually boasted a rather explosive offense this season, thanks mostly in part to the dangerous aerial attack led by quarterback Darian Mensah.

Mensah's favorite target? Wide receiver Cooper Barkate, who transferred to Duke after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Harvard.

Barkate hauled in 68 receptions for 1,069 yard and six touchdowns in 2025, averaging a hefty 15.7 yards per catch and putting himself on the map as an NFL Draft prospect.

Is Barkate a household name? No, but he has played well enough to draw attention as a potential NFL talent, and there were questions as to whether or not he would enter the 2026 draft.

Well, we can put those discussions to rest, as Barkate has re-signed with the Blue Devils and will be returning to Durham for his final year of eligibility next season.

Barkate definitely showed very positive signs over his last couple of years at Harvard, snaring 40 balls for 501 yards and three scores in 2023 and following that up by catching 63 passes for 1,084 yards while reaching the end zone 11 times in 2024.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound weapon has averaged 15.5 yards per grab over the course of his NCAA tenure, a very impressive number for a player who does not have blazing speed.

Barkate has certainly caught the attention of NFL scouts and talent evaluators and was being tabbed as a potential mid-round pick had he decided to enter the draft this year, so perhaps another strong season at Duke could further boost his stock.

The Newport Beach, Ca. native could ultimately develop into a dependable slot receiver on the NFL level, which is probably where he would best excel due to his lack of elite athleticism.

There is nothing wrong with that, though, and based on the fact that he just posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns, you can understand why some feel he has a legitimate future in the pros.

Of course, we have seen plenty of wide receivers post impressive numbers on the collegiate level and then flame out in the NFL, so we can't count our chickens before the eggs hatch with Barkate.

But it's difficult not to be impressed by what we have seen from the emerging star.
