Duke Head Coach Called Intriguing Option for Job Opening

The Duke Blue Devils got back on track as they now have a two-game win streak, beating Virginia and then Boston College. Manny Diaz's team is now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in ACC play, keeping them in the hunt to make the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game again. 

He's done a great job with Duke since taking over and even losing some top players like Darian Mensah to Miami, he has the Blue Devils still in the race. 

But with the success comes with being connected to open jobs around the sport. And that's exactly what is happening to Diaz.

On Sunday afternoon, Florida State fired Mike Norvell after another disappointing season in Tallahassee. The Seminoles program will now begin a search for a new head coach and it's a job that will get a lot of attention. Florida State still has that aura in terms of a recognizable brand and a program that can win. 

So we shouldn't be shocked to see Manny Diaz's name now being brought up as a potential candidate for the job. 

We know that there are reports of Diaz being on the Seminoles' big board early on and now, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic noted Diaz as being a 'intriguing' candidate. In his latest piece on the Seminoles, Feldman brings up Diaz's connection of coaching under Bobby Bowden and being a former FSU student. Diaz got his coaching start with the Seminoles and has coached in Miami, so he knows the state of Florida well in terms of recruiting. 

Plus, he's found success at Duke. 

In three seasons, Diaz is 24-11 and led the Blue Devils to the ACC Championship last season. He's been impressive without Darian Mensah or receiver Cooper Barkate who both left for Miami.  

It would be smart for Florida State to inquire about him and "make him say no" in their coaching search.

For Duke, it's still very early in that search and Diaz is the head coach of the Blue Devils. The focus is still on this season and with the success he's had as a coach here, it's a good thing that he is being connected to the job. This is going to be something to monitor here over the next few weeks as Florida State is a HUGE job opening not only in the conference but in all of college football.

Duke is set to play at NC State on Saturday afternoon.
