Manny Diaz lands a dynamic California playmaker as three-star hybrid threat Luke Karby pledges to the Duke Blue Devils, bolstering a rising 2027 class with elite vertical size.

The Duke Blue Devils gained momentum under head coach Manny Diaz by winning the ACC championship last season.

While Duke lost quarterback Darian Mensah to ACC rival Miami in the transfer portal, there is reason to believe Diaz can continue to build a strong program for the Blue Devils.

On Sunday, Duke received big recruiting news for the offense in 2027. Tight end Luke Karby announced he was committing to the Blue Devils.

"COMMITTED! #DDMF All Glory to God!! #BLESSED," Karby posted on X.

Per 247Sports, Karby is a three-star tight end from Mission Viejo, California. The six-foot-three, 215-pound tight end is the No. 72 prospect at his position for the 2027 class.

Karby told On3 that Duke was the right fit for him to grow as a player and student. He projects to be more of a receiver than a blocker, though he will develop in both areas during his time with the program.

“I’m very excited about my decision,” Karby said. “I know Duke is the place where I can develop as a person and a player. At Duke, I can play my best football and set myself up for a great future. It’s really a blessing for me to be in this position...

“They want to use my athletic ability and let me stretch the field and make plays that I make daily. They want to use me in the blocking game as well and create mismatches in the receiving game so I love the fit.”

Karby decided to commit to Duke after a successful recruiting visit.

“I saw everything I needed to see at Duke,” Karby said. “They have shown me nothing but constant love and confirmation I can come here and do my thing.

“This weekend showed me everything I needed to know about how much I’m going to enjoy being here. I know I’m going to be able to come to Duke and work hard to be the best player I can be.”

The Blue Devils have a strong recruiting class for the 2027 campaign. Per 247Sports, Duke is ranked No. 32, with tight end Parker Newman as its top recruit.

With Karby, the tight end room will be even stronger in 2027.
