Duke Blue Devis quarterback Darian Mensah has landed some significant recognition after his major decision.
Duke Blue Devils quarterback Darian Mensah flirted with the idea of heading into the 2026 NFL Draft, but he opted to return to Duke for another year.
There had been some speculation that Mensah — who is entering the back half of a two-year, $8 million NIL deal with the Blue Devils — would hit the transfer portal, but it's looking more and more like he will spend next season at Durham.
Mensah transferred over to Duke after spending two years at Tulane and led the ACC in passing yards (3,646) and passing touchdowns (30) this season while completing 67.9 percent of his throws in 2025, leading the Blue Devils to a shocking ACC Championship Game victory.
Pete Nakos of On 3 recently compiled a list of the top transfers of the year, and Mensah ranked 10th on the list. He was also the second-ranked quarterback behind Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.
“The Tulane transfer quarterback set the market value at the position last year, signing a two-year deal paying him $4 million annually,” Nakos wrote. “But Darian Mensah produced on the field for the Blue Devils in 2025, leading Duke to a conference title for the first time since 1989."

While the redshirt sophomore may not be an explosive true dual threat, he is athletic enough to be evasive in the pocket and to make plays on the run.
Mensah possesses impressive arm strength, tremendous pocket presence and an uncanny ability to read defenses, all of which should make him a very compelling NFL prospect for 2027.
Given that the quarterback class is very thin for the 2026 NFL Draft, many felt that Mensah could enter the draft and end up coming off the board on Day 2, but he will make more money returning to Duke for another year and will also get the chance to further boost his draft stock.
The Blue Devils have gone 8-5 this season, marking their fourth straight campaign in which they have qualified for a bowl game. That equals the second-longest streak of their history, the first of which occurred between 2012 and 2015.
Duke will face Arizona State in the Sun Bowl on New Year's Eve.
