The open communication period for college basketball recruiting officially opened earlier in the week, allowing teams to reach out to recruits. And programs wasted no time, including the Duke Blue Devils.

As soon as the open period begun, the Blue Devils reached out to a few different 2028 prospects. We already wrote on their pursuit of top overall recruit AJ Williams but he wasn't the only one to draw interest from Duke.

Jon Scheyer and his staff have also reached out to five-star recruit Brady Pettigrew.

The combo guard is one of the top players in the 2028 class and has 28 total offers in his recruitment so far but has yet to land one from Duke. However, that will likely change as the Blue Devils continue to show interest in him.

Will Jon Scheyer land an Illinois recruit?

Scheyer and Pettigrew have a connection that could work out in Duke's favor. The talented recruit hails from Boilingbrook, Illinois.  Scheyer is from Northbrook and became an Illinois High School star when he was playing before heading to Duke.

The Blue Devils have had success landing players out of Chicago and the suburbs over the years. That includes Jahlil Okafor, Jabari Parker, and DJ Steward among others.

Pettigrew is ranked No. 14 nationally, No. 1 combo guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. His recruitment will continue to take off and we should expect Duke to be involved more and more as it goes on.

This is certainly a recruitment to monitor moving forward, especially in the Summer as things heat up for him.
