The Duke Blue Devils and Jon Scheyer have been putting together an excellent season thus far. Unfortunately, the recent loss to the arch-rival North Carolina Tar Heels had thrown their positioning for a No. 1 seed in March Madness into some doubt.
At the time of this writing, the Blue Devils hold a 22-2 record. Since losing to North Carolina, Duke has been able to rebound with a 70-54 win over the Pittsburgh Panthers. They're set to face off against the Clemson Tigers this afternoon.
With that being said, the concern about potentially dropping out of the No. 1 seed race has been relieved. The team is still in good standing.
ESPN's latest bracketology update still has the Blue Devils being a No. 1 seed in the March Madness picture. Joe Lunardi has Duke facing off against No. 16 Long Island in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Of course, those projections are subject to change. If the Blue Devils were to suffer another loss anytime in the near future, they likely would drop down some.
Led by Cameron Boozer, Duke seems to have a very legitimate chance to win a National Championship this season. However, there are a lot of other teams around the nation who will give the Blue Devils a run for their money.
Duke only has seven games remaining on its regular season schedule. After todays' game against Clemson, the Blue Devils will close out their schedule by facing Syracuse at home, No. 2 Michigan at home, Notre Dame on the road, No. 15 Virginia at home, NC State on the road, and a rematch against No. 11 North Carolina at home.
Needless to say, they have a grueling schedule ahead of them. Scheyer has his work cut out for him to keeping winning to earn a No. 1 seed in the tournamnet.
Only time will tell whether or not Duke can accomplish its goal of being a top seed come March Madness. The loss to the Tar Heels was a disappointing setback, but for now the Blue Devils remains one of the best teams in college basketball.
