Cameron Boozer continues to separate himself from other freshmen around the country and it’s been very impressive to watch. I’m seriously waiting for this kid to have a bad game just to see if it’ll happen… but it never does.
The young man has been on a tear over the past week, helping Duke play some of its best . With Duke winning and Boozer again going off, he continues to get recognized by many.
Cameron Salerno named Boozer the CBS College Basketball Freshman of the Week after another dominant stretch that just showed how advanced his game already is.
“Boozer, the former No. 3 overall player in the 2025 recruiting cycle by 247Sports, has been one of the best and most efficient players in the sport this season. The Duke star is averaging 23.2 points per game, which ranks No. 3 among all Division I players. He is also averaging 9.9 rebounds, tied for 17th among all players.
“Boozer is coming off a 30-point outing against Stanford in which he secured his ninth double-double. Boozer also finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a 71-56 win over Cal earlier in the week. Duke has won six consecutive games since suffering its first loss against Texas Tech,” he wrote.
The numbers are impressive on their own, but the consistency might be what’s even crazier. He’s so young, and in this landscape of college basketball, it’s almost ridiculous that he hasn’t had a “bad” game for most other standards.
He’s a freshman playing like a veteran and head coach Jon Scheyer seemingly said the same thing after his 30-point double-double last week.
"You want to take what the defense is giving you, but also we've been at our best being a paint-first team," Scheyer said, per the Duke Chronicle. "That just is who we are and how we're wired. I thought our guys had incredible maturity, starting off attacking the basket."
There’s a lot of basketball left to be played, and Boozer will need to continue being this good for Duke, but it’s gotten to a point that it’s almost guaranteed that he’ll do what’s needed.
