The Duke Blue Devils are being favored to stay undefeated this week against Georgia Tech.
Coming into the new college football season, the Duke Blue Devils weren't being given much consideration for the ACC Conference title.
Despite Duke winning the conference a year ago, the Blue Devils weren't seen as a team to watch. However, the Blue Devils have taken things into their own hands, opening the season with four straight wins.
Duke now sits at 4-0 on the year, entering a Week 6 showdown against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on the road. The Blue Devils have played well on both sides of the ball this season, looking like a potential contender.
But the Blue Devils understand that the job is far from being done, and that there is a lot of the season left to go. This game against Georgia Tech could tell a lot about Duke, especially with the team coming off a bye week.
Entering the game with the Yellow Jackets, Duke is being favored to win the matchup by ESPN. According to the ESPN game predictor, the Blue Devils are being given a 72.6 percent chance to take down Georgia Tech.
Duke already got a big road win over Illinois earlier this season, and they will now be looking to grab another one. If the Blue Devils play up to their standards, a win is well within the cards against the 1-3 Yellow Jackets.
But any game on the road in college football can be tough, especially during conference play. However, the Blue Devils are a confident bunch, and this team understands what is at stake in this game.
Duke will look to feature star running back Nate Sheppard in the game plan once again, hoping he can produce strong results. Sheppard currently leads the nation in rushing, putting up 644 yards on the ground with six touchdowns.
The star back has given the Blue Devils offense much needed life this season, and he has helped open up the passing game as well. Having someone like Sheppard tends to keep opposing defenses honest, allowing quarterback Walker Eget to have open passing lanes.
Overall, Sheppard is an invaluable piece to the Blue Devils system, and if he continues to perform like this, his name could be placed in the Heisman Trophy conversation. But for now, the entire team will be focused on Georgia Tech, looking to stay undefeated before a matchup with the rival North Carolina Tar Heels.
The kickoff between the Blue Devils and Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET this weekend.
