Former Duke Blue Devils star quarterback Daniel Jones has received a major injury update.
With NFL training camp coming up quickly, there are some former Duke Blue Devils stars who are preparing for a new season. One of those players is none other than quarterback Daniel Jones.
Jones starred at Duke from the 2016 season through 2018. He completed 59.9 percent of his career pass attempts for 8,201 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions, while also running for 1,323 yards and 17 more scores.
Since being drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Jones has had a rollercoaster career. At times with the Giants, he was viewed as a budding star. However, he also had his obvious struggles and the team chose to part ways with him in 2024 after five and a half seasons.
Last offseason, Jones latched on with the Indianapolis Colts. He played admirably during his first year with the Colts and beat out former No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson for the starting job.
Throughout the course of the 2025 season with Indianapolis, Jones threw for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while completing 68 percent of his passes. Jones also ran for 164 yards and five more touchdowns.
Due to his strong performance with the Colts, he was given a lucrative two-year, $88 million deal that could reach up to $100 million with incentives.
Unfortunately, during the 2025 season with Indianapolis, Jones suffered a severe injury. He tore his Achilles late in the year and has been working his way back.
A new update has been shared about Jones' health.
According to Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer, Jones is on track to be ready to participate in drills by the opening of training camp.
“The good news is Jones met all his marks this spring. And, I’m told, if things keep going the way they have, he’ll start working in team drills at the start of camp, which is a good sign for where he is,” Breer reported.
After landing such a lucrative contract, the pressure is on Jones to live up to the hype. He looked great last season, but there were times in New York where the same hype surrounding him.
Hopefully, the recovery process continues going smoothly and Jones can get back to finding the same success that he found in 2025 for the Colts. If that happens, he could have a long-term future with a franchise that clearly believes in his ability.
