Former Duke Blue Devils star quarterback Daniel Jones has received a major update on his NFL career.

The Duke Blue Devils have churned out some high-profile football players. While mostly being a school known for a dominant basketball program, the football side of things has been coming along nicely over the years.

One of the current top NFL players from Duke is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones.

Jones played three years of college football for the Blue Devils. Throughout those three seasons, he completed 59.9 percent of his pass attempts for 8,201 yards, 52 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions, while also picking up 1,323 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns on the ground.

Coming out of Duke, Jones was drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He showed flashes of stardom with the Giants, but there were a lot of consistency problems as well.

Unfortunately for Jones, that led to a departure from New York during the 2024 campaign. He quickly signed with the Minnesota Vikings, but did not play a game for them.

Heading into the 2025 NFL offseason, Jones searched to find the right fit to resurrect his career. He ended up landing with the Colts, which was exactly what the quarterback needed.

During the 2025 NFL season in Indianapolis, Jones looked like a star once again. Before a brutal torn Achilles injury ended his season prematurely, the 29-year-old signal caller played in 13 games and completed 68 percent of his passes while throwing for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also chipped in with 164 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

With that being said, a new update has been shared about how Jones is doing during training camp with the Colts coming off of the Achilles injury.

Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen spoke out with the update during an August 11 appearance on the "Pat McAfee Show."

"Daniel Jones attacked his rehab the right way and he's looked really good so far," Steichen said. "He's only getting stronger."

Everything seems to be going smoothly for Jones as he works his way back to the gridiron. He has already been ruled out for the Colts' preseason opener against the New England Patriots this week, but it sounds like a done deal that he'll be ready to play in Week 1.

Hopefully, the rest of training camp and preseason goes according to plan for Jones. The former Duke star is looking to come back and prove that he can still be a long-term option for the Colts and he seems well on his way towards doing just that.
