A key Duke football player will be a true game-time decision against North Carolina.
The Duke Blue Devils are looking to avenge their first loss of the season last week, and they are back on the field this Saturday. The Blue Devils will return home and host the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Duke has won two-straight games in this rivalry and while the Blue Devils won last season, this is a better UNC team. So it won't be an easy game by any means.
As we get set for kickoff later on Saturday, the Blue Devils are still unknown about running back Nate Sheppard's injury. The running back popped up on the injury report Wednesday night as questionable. However, a report from Pete Nakos on Friday night stated that he will be a true game-time decision for Saturday. It will be up to how Sheppard feels Saturday morning and into the pre-game warm-ups.
When news dropped on Wednesday, it didn't appear to be anything super serious in terms of missing the game. But now with Friday's report, it's a bit of a serious issue for the Blue Devils and the offense.
Sheppard is among the best running backs in college football, rushing for 743 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns. He's averaging 6.3 yards per attempt as well.
But UNC also knows that Sheppard can change the game in other ways.
Head coach Bill Belichick noted earlier this week that Sheppard is one of the best running backs he's seen but he can also hurt you as a receiver. That was evident last week when he had a 43-yard reception to set up Duke in field goal range late.
The two teams will release their final injury report two hours before kickoff which is slated for 3:30 p.m. We will know soon enough if Sheppard will play or not.
Below is the Friday injury report for both teams.
