Is Duke Blue Devils star Cameron Boozer really the player who should go No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft?
Duke Blue Devils forward Cameron Boozer is one of a few players in contention for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft this year.
There is no consensus No. 1 in this class. Instead, there are numerous players fighting for the top spot, and each prospect is wildly different from the next.
Some feel that Boozer — who just won the AP Player of the Year award — is the best player slated to be available, but others have concerns about the double-double machine.
For example, an Eastern Conference scout told Jeremy Woo and Tim Bontemps of ESPN that it might be a bit complicated to build around Boozer.
"I'm not a huge fan of a one-position 4," the scout said. "If that's what he is, then you have to build your team specifically around that, given his lack of versatility."
The concerns for Boozer seem pretty obvious.
He is not the most athletically gifted player out there, and it doesn't look like he'll be anything more than an average defender on the NBA level.

Boozer averaged 22.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists over 33.4 minutes per game on 55.6/39.1/78.9 shooting splits this season, leading Duke to an Elite Eight appearance.
No one is doubting Boozer's offensive acumen. He is very talented in the post, and he has a pretty smooth jumper. His three-point shot did abandon him a bit in the NCAA Tournament, but you can't question Boozer's ability to spread the floor.
Much like his father, Carlos Boozer, offense isn't the issue for Cameron.
But can he hang defensively? Boozer doesn't have the quickest feet and he isn't much of a rim protector. That means you can put him in pick-and-rolls and potentially have a field day, and he also isn't going to challenge many shots.
If a team feels it already has a strong defensive core, then perhaps Boozer would be a great fit. But can a squad that already struggles defensively afford to use such a high pick on Boozer? We'll find out in a couple of months.
