A top Duke Basketball recruiting target has jumped in the rankings due to a reclassification.
Since Jon Scheyer took over as head coach of Duke, the program has turned in really good recruiting classes. The Blue Devils have had one of the top classes every year since Scheyer took over.
The 2026 class is no different as Duke has the top overall class. But now the future of the program is on the 2027 and 2028 classes, where Duke continues to pursue top prospects in hopes of building their future classes.
On Tuesday, there was news that AJ Williams would reclassify from the 2028 to the 2027 class, a huge development for recruits in terms of their classes. Williams was considered the top prospect in the 2028 recruiting class but will be moving up a year. And that could impact several programs in different ways.
With Williams moving to 2027, a new prospect took over the top spot in the 2028 rankings and he happens to be a priority recruit for Duke.
Five-star small forward Colton Hiller is now the top overall recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Hiller takes over the spot, with Williams now in 2027 as the rankings take into account several recruiting sites, including On3, 247, and ESPN.
For Duke, they officially offered Hiller just weeks ago after watching him several times prior. The coaching staff has been in contact with him and is making a big push in that recruitment.
But they will have some tough competition.
Hiller already has 26 offers in his recruitment with programs like Kansas, Alabama, Michigan, BYU, and North Carolina among others offering him. The Blue Devils have been considered by some to be the early favorite in this recruitment. However, his brother is currently a football player at Florida which could be an issue.
For now, Duke is strong in this recruitment and Scheyer rarely loses out when they put the full court press on a top prospect. Will Hiller become the next top recruit to commit to Duke? It's something we are certainly watching moving forward.
