Where does Duke's Walker Eget rank among other Atlantic Coast Conference quarterbacks?

Where Duke's starting QB ranks in the ACCMore Videos

The Duke Blue Devils have a decision to make.

With just over two weeks until they kickoff the 2026 season by hosting Tulane, the Blue Devils have yet to name a starting quarterback. Manny Diaz said it was decision week in terms of position battles, including at quarterback and ideally, they would like to have a player separate from the other.

But the battle between former San Jose State quarterback Walker Eget and redshirt freshman Dan Mahan has yet to see someone take advantage. Instead, the battle rolls on as it's a key storyline here in training camp.

As we get set for the upcoming season, USA TODAY Sports ranked every starting quarterback in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Eddie Timanus put together the list of the 17 starting quarterbacks and while the battle hasn't been declared over just yet, he believes it will be Eget winning the job.

However, he has Eget ranked No. 12 of 17 on his list:

Technically, redshirt freshman Dan Mahan is still in the mix according to Blue Devils coach Manny Diaz. But the likely starter will be Eget, plucked via the portal from San Jose State at the 11th hour following Darian Mensah’s messy exit to Miami. He threw for over 3,000 yards with the Spartans last season, though his completion rate was a shade under 60%.

The quarterback did beat out Mason McKenzie (Boston College), Billy Edwards Jr. (UNC), Davis Warren (Stanford), Gio Lopez (Wake Forest) and Ashton Daniels (Florida State) for the 12th spot. But ideally, you would like him in the top 10.

Eget has some intriguing tools and as Timanus mentions, he threw for over 3,000 yards with San Jose State last season. He has a good arm in terms of strength but he needs to clean up the accuracy.

That could be the one thing that really hurts him in this race and why he hasn't separated from Mahan.

Time will tell if Eget wins the job and can play better than his ranking. If he does, it could mean good things for a Duke team that now needs to find an answer at the quarterback position.
