It seems like things are falling apart for the Duke Blue Devils, and that was evident on Saturday against the University of Virginia.
While Virginia came into this one as a top-20 team in the nation at No. 19, losing 34-17 at home is never going to get the job done.
Simply put, Duke couldn't do anything on either side of the football, and it was a total team collapse.
Darian Mensah was 18-35 for just one touchdown, while the defense allowed Chandler Morris to throw for 316 yards and two touchdowns. They also gave up 133 yards on the ground to just J'Mari Taylor alone, who scored two touchdowns.
When speaking to reporters after the game, head coach Manny Diaz put it best.
"Very disappointing night, we were thoroughly outclassed in every category by Virginia tonight," Diaz said following the Blue Devils' loss, per Anna Snyder of The Fayetteville Observer.
"Just didn't look like us, didn't look like how we've looked throughout the year, so it's a combination of us not playing very well against a team that's playing really, really well."
While I like what Diaz had to say, I also think a lot of this falls on him.
At the end of the day, he needs to have his guys ready to play, and Duke clearly wasn't ready to go on Saturday.
This was a chance for them to put themselves in a position to make the ACC Championship Game, but those hopes and dreams are now gone.
"I am pleased at the heart and the fight that we showed in the fourth quarter," Diaz said. "... That does show that there is a backbone to this team, there's a backbone to this program, and that's what it's going to take going forward."
It'll be interesting to see how the program looks moving forward, but this year was somewhat of a step backward.
I thought Duke was going to be a lot better, and while I understand the loss to UConn didn't mean a whole lot in terms of conference situations, it just goes to show that things have been rather ugly at times.
