LSU officials were so disgusted with what was going on in Brian Kelly's football program that they fired him three weeks ago after he lost three SEC games over a four-week period. They didn't care about the cost, firing him well before his 10-year contract was up. He was owed $54 million in a buyout when he was terminated.
According to multiple reports, LSU tried to negotiate a lower payment with Kelly. He said no, and then said no again when they made a better offer. Kelly and his lawyers are holding out for every last penny.
Kelly’s attorneys wrote a letter last Wednesday to LSU athletic director Verge Ausberry and LSU Board of Supervisors member John Carmouche in which they asked for written confirmation by 5 p.m. CT Monday that the school will “fulfill its contractual obligation” after he was dumped in the fourth season of a 10-year, $95 million deal, according to The Advocate.
