Fired Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore was arrested on Wednesday afternoon following his termination with cause. He is now a suspect in an alleged assault and remains in police custody as of Thursday. Here's what we know to be true.

After the Michigan Wolverines made shockwaves firing former head coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday for cause due to evidence of an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, things went from bad to worse in Ann Arbor. Just hours after the announcement, Moore was arrested and remains in custody as of Thursday afternoon as a suspect in an alleged assault, per Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel of ESPN. Moore is expected to appear in court on Friday for an arraignment.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office told ESPN that they don’t expect to know on Thursday whether or not they will file criminal charges against Moore, with details about his arrest not yet released by the police department. Pittsfield police released a statement on Wednesday night following Moore’s arrest, which detailed that they responded to a call at 4:10 p.m. on the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road "for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault. ... A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community."

The Wolverines are suddenly without a head coach, and in the midst of turmoil and controversy while still having to prep for a bowl game. The abrupt termination leaves Michigan in a bad spot with most desirable candidates already taking other jobs.

Here is the full story from Michigan Roundtable writer Zack Besaw on the top candidates that have emerged in the last 24 hours since Moore was terminated on Wednesday.

It has been a whirlwind of real news intermixed with fake reports on X by parody accounts and the like that have turned this serious situation into a bit of a circus. It’s important to stick to the facts and what can be corroborated by credible sources. All we know as of Thursday afternoon is that an investigation revealed credible evidence of Moore engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. He was promptly terminated without cause, and within 30 minutes of the statement released by athletic director Warde Manuel, police were responding to a call that led to the arrest of Moore as a suspect in an alleged assault.
