Ole Miss' vice chancellor of intercollegiate athletics said an announcement on Kiffin's job status will come after the Rebels' final regular-season game against Mississippi State. According to CBS Sports, the Florida Gators appear to be the third choice.

The Lane Kiffin Show will reach its dramatic conclusion Nov. 28. Three loyal fan bases, plus anyone who cares about college football, might agree that isn't soon enough.

On Friday, Kiffin met with his Ole Miss bosses — vice chancellor for intercollegiate athletics Keith Carter and university chancellor Glenn Boyce. After that meeting, Carter said an announcement on Kiffin's decision will come after the annual Egg Bowl between the Rebels and Mississippi State.

There would appear to be three choices:

  • Stay at No. 6 Ole Miss, which is enjoying its greatest season and appears destined for a berth in the college football playoffs and where Kiffin the person has adopted a healthier lifestyle.
  • Go to Florida. Since their third national title in 2008, the Gators have tried four coaches and slowly slipped into national irrelevance. According to CBS Sports, Florida is running third in this race.
  • Go to LSU. According to CBS Sports, LSU is finalizing an offer, blessed by the Louisiana governor, of $98 million that would make Kiffin the highest-paid coach in college football.

"Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce," Carter said. "While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important — our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion."

According to ESPN, Ole Miss has offered Kiffin a contract extension with a salary comparable to the Tigers and Gators' bids.

"Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is focused on preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together, we want to ensure that our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday's game," Carter said. "This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season, and it's imperative they feel the support of the Ole Miss family in the week ahead."

Stay tuned.
