A top recruit has revealed some blunt thoughts about the Florida Gators' coaching staff.

The Florida Gators underwent a regime change following the 2025 campaign, firing Billy Napier (which actually happened midway through last season) and then hiring Jon Sumrall as new head coach in late November.

The results have already been positive, as Sumrall put together a terrific haul in the transfer portal and also convinced key players like running back Jadan Baugh, wide receiver Vernell Brown and edge rusher Jayden Woods to stay.

Not only that, but Florida has been making some serious noise on the recruiting trail and seems to be pretty ubiquitous when it comes to being in on the top prospects across the country, and Sumrall's presence is a big reason for that.

In fact, four-star 2027 offensive lineman Sean Tatum offered some very strong wards on Sumrall and the coaching staff during a recent interview with On 3.

"The energy has flipped a 180," Tatum said. "The new staff is better than the old staff, and no disrespect of course, but ask any recruit. They've seen the energy is electric."

Tatum is not the only player to say this.

It's pretty clear that the culture has already shifted in The Swamp, and while the Gators still need to actually go out and prove it on the field, it seems fairly obvious that optimism has risen surrounding the program.

Florida has been applying a full-court press on Tatum, who is the 10th-ranked interior offensive lineman and 191st-ranked player in his class overall, via 247 Sports' composite rankings.

Tatum is a product of Fort Pierce, Fl., which is about three-plus hours south of Gainesville, so the Gators may have an in-state advantage.

The 6-foot-3, 317-pounder is also being courted heavily by Auburn, Miami and Tennessee and has received offers from 28 schools in total, which also includes Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and Texas A&M.

Florida is certainly facing stiff competition for Tatum's services, but the Gators appear to be one of Tatum's top potential landing spots.

Florida went just 4-8 in 2025 and has recorded four losing campaigns over the last five years, but the program appears to be headed in the right direction under Sumrall.
