The Gators face a tense wait as key playmakers Eric Singleton Jr. and Emmanuel Oyebadejo head toward game-time decisions for a high-stakes SEC road test at Auburn.
The Florida Gators enter their SEC opener on the road against Auburn, dealing with a few injuries.
The Gators are 2-0 with blowout wins over Florida Atlantic and Campbell. Auburn transfer wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. suffered an injury against FAU and did not play against Campbell. He recorded no stats during the FAU game.
On Monday, Sumrall told reporters that Singleton was questionable for the contest on Saturday, though he made some practice and is no longer wearing a boot.
Per an update by Pete Thamel of ESPN, Singleton will be a game-time decision for Saturday. Edge Emmanuel Oyebadejo, also battling a lower body injury, will also be a game-time decision.
"Sources: Florida starting receiver Eric Singleton Jr. (ankle) projects as a game-time decision at Auburn on Saturday," Thamel posted on X. "He’s expected to dress and try to go, although there’s no certainty he’ll play.
"He played for Auburn last year. He missed the Campbell game. Starting defensive lineman Emmanuel Oyebadejo also projects as a game-time decision."
Without Singleton, the Gators have relied on Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown to play heavier roles for the offense.
Wilson led the Gators with 104 yards and a score on five receptions against Campbell. Brown leads Florida in receptions this season with 160 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions.
Singleton would no doubt love the opportunity to play against his former school on Saturday. Singleton initially started his college career with Georgia Tech, working under Buster Faulkner, Florida's first-year offensive coordinator.
Faulkner wants Singleton to be a leader on the team this year.
"I tell him all the time, he's one of the smarter players that I've ever gotten the opportunity to coach," Faulkner said.
"Super intelligent, he knows the game. And so, at this point, I'm just challenging him to bring somebody with him. You know, bring one of those younger guys with him."
With Singleton being a game-time decision, he might be set up for a minor role if he plays against Auburn this weekend. The Gators need him closer to 100 percent for the rest of the SEC schedule.
