Former Florida Gators kicker Trey Smack had a solid debut in his first NFL game.
The Green Bay Packers selected former Florida Gators kicker Trey Smack in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and he won the starting job.
In Week 1, Smack connected on all three of his field goal attempts, including a 59-yarder, but he only made one of two extra point attempts.
Overall, it was a solid debut for the 23-year-old kicker, but he will look to be perfect in Week 2 against the New York Jets.
Smack had three quality seasons in college with the Gators, showcasing that he can consistently be a great kicker. In the 2023 season, he made 17 of 21 field goal attempts and all 29 of his extra point attempts.
He played well again in 2024, making 18 of 21 field goal attempts and all 44 of his extra point attempts.
In the 2025 season, Smack made 18 of 22 field goal attempts and 27 of 28 extra point attempts.
IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters ConnectHe was one of the few bright spots on the Gators' roster over the last few seasons, as they struggled under head coach Billy Napier. Following their 4-8 season in 2025, Florida moved on from Napier and brought in Jon Sumrall to replace him.
Sumrall has gotten off to a great start with the Gators in 2026, as they are 2-0. He made plenty of additions in the transfer portal, helping Florida become a competitive team right away.
Kicker Patrick Durkin is one of the additions the Gators made, and he has done a great job replacing Smack thus far. Through the first two weeks of the season, Durkin has made both of his field goal attempts and all 15 of his extra point attempts.
He comes over from Tulane, where he made 27 of 32 field goal attempts and 57 of 58 extra point attempts.
Florida is firmly in the mix in the SEC thus far under Sumrall and will look to get a win in Week 3 over the Auburn Tigers, while Smack will look to make all of his kicks in his second game in the NFL.
