The Florida Gators fell out of the Top 25 in the AP Poll after losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Florida Gators suffered a disappointing loss against the South Carolina Gamecocks, which was their second loss in a row.
The Gators established themselves as one of the top teams in the country early in the season with a strong win over the Ole Miss Rebels. However, since that win, Florida has lost two games, which has dropped them out of the Top 25 in the AP Poll.
Their dreams of making it into the College Football Playoff and competing for a National Championship are likely gone unless they upset the No. 7 Texas Longhorns and No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs in their next two matchups.
Florida's defense has been a catalyst for their losses, allowing 45 points to the Missouri Tigers and 38 to the Gamecocks. While the defense wasn't elite early in the season, it was much better than it has performed in the last few games.
On offense, the Gators have struggled to get Jadan Baugh and the run game going. Baugh rushed for just 13 yards on 12 carries against Missouri and 59 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries against South Carolina.

Early in the season, Baugh established himself as one of the best running backs in the country and a contender for the Heisman Trophy. His numbers are still elite this season, but Florida must get him back on track if they're going to be competitive.
Through six games, he has rushed for 672 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching seven passes for 46 yards. The offense will need to lean on him against Texas and Georgia to have any chance of stealing a game.
They will also need to play clean football, as they lost the turnover battle against the Gamecocks, which was a major factor in the loss.
Overall, head coach Jon Sumrall has led the Gators in the right direction in 2026. They have already matched their win total from 2025 with four victories and have shown they can be competitive against top programs. However, Florida needs to prove they can be a consistent team and not be blown out in games they're expected to win.
Sumrall will look to get his program back on track against the Longhorns, and with a win against them and the Bulldogs, they would surely find themselves back in the Top 25 with the potential to end the season as a ranked team.
