The Florida Gators have landed a major recruit for their 2027 class.

The Florida Gators are making a huge addition to their 2027 class as five-star wide receiver Easton Royal is flipping his commitment from the Texas Longhorns. Royal committed to Texas in November of 2025, but is now joining Florida.

Jon Sumrall and his staff did an incredible job landing Royal, the top receiver in the 2027 class.

Royal stated that there is more energy in the air in Florida's building and the new staff has a lot of things to offer. He added that the Gators' attention to detail and family vibe played a role in his decision. Royal mentioned they are one of the only teams with five receiver coaches and that each coach can help him get better.

It was a disappointing Saturday for Florida, as the South Carolina Gamecocks blew them out 38-19. However, it was good news for the Gators on Sunday, as they landed a five-star recruit.

Florida's offense could look different in 2027 with an elite receiver in Royal. The Gators have leaned heavily on the run game in 2026, with Jadan Baugh rushing for 672 yards and 12 touchdowns through six games. Baugh has established himself as a Heisman contender, but when he leaves for the NFL Draft, the offense will have to adjust.

Baugh is projected to be the first running back selected in the 2027 NFL Draft if he declares. Royal is an extremely talented player the Gators can build their offense around after Baugh. He has the talent to help lead the program into the College Football Playoff.

Despite back-to-back disappointing losses, it's been a big step in the right direction for Florida in 2026.

New head coach Jon Sumrall has done a great job since taking over. The Gators went 4-8 in 2025, and they are 4-2 in 2026. Florida will look to finish the season strong, but it will be tough with their next matchups coming against the No. 7 Longhorns and No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.

If the Gators can end the season as a ranked program, it would be a huge step for Florida, helping them land more recruits and become a contender for the National Championship in 2027.

Sumrall and the Gators will be excited to have Royal on their roster next season, but they have plenty of work to do for the rest of 2026 to get back to winning games.
