The Florida Gators' key to success next college football may leave you surprised.

The Florida Gators are definitely hoping to experience quite a bit more success next season than they did in 2025, or really the last several years in general.

Florida went just 4-8 last season and has posted four losing campaigns in the last five years, marking one of the worst stretches in program history.

Enter Jon Sumrall, who has taken over as the Gators' new head coach following successful stints at both Troy and Tulane.

The SEC is an entirely different ballgame, though, so there are questions as to whether or not Sumrall is ready.

However, the 43-year-old has already gotten off to an impressive start in Gainesville, putting together quite the transfer portal haul.

While Sumrall added an army of players this winter, perhaps his most intriguing moves came at the wide receiver position, where he added five players including Eric Singleton, Bailey Stockton and Jaylen Lloyd.

J.D. Pickell of On 3 is certainly enamored with Florida's receiving corps and thinks the group could the difference maker for the Gators in 2026.

"This receiver room, my instincts, spidey senses are tingling with the boys," Pickell said. "I think they're being slept on. Eric Singleton, people forget, he was a weapon at Georgia Tech."

Singleton spent two seasons at Georgia Tech before transferring to Auburn, where he had a disappointing campaign in 2025. But Pickell is clearly expecting big things from the speedster in the Swamp.

Pickell also discussed how good Dallas Wilson looked when healthy last year, and he feels that Stockton could be a weapon, as well.

It's also worth noting that Vernell Brown decided to return to Florida after rumors of a transfer portal departure, so that was a huge win for Sumrall and Co.

When you think of the Gators heading into 2026, you'll probably immediately think of the unstable quarterback situation, running back Jadan Baugh or the defense, especially considering that Sumrall himself is a former linebacker.

But Pickell actually feels that it is the wide receiver room that may ultimately put Florida over the top next fall. Or at least make the Gators more competitive.
