The Florida Gators went just 4-8 this past season, but that does not necessarily mean they didn't have any talent on their roster.
And now that head coach Jon Sumrall is in charge, Florida may be able to get more out of its talent in 2026 and beyond.
One player to watch in particular heading into next season is wide receiver Vernell Brown.
Some felt Brown could transfer after this past year, but the upcoming sophomore decided to return to Gainesville.
That's great news for the Gators, considering Brown caught 40 passes for 512 yards in his debut campaign in 2025.
A former four-star recruit, Brown has been renowned for his ridiculous speed, which makes him a very viable vertical threat.
Yes, he lacks elite size, as he stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 180 pounds, but his quick-twitch athleticism definitely compensates for his frame.
Of course, having the extra height would be nice because it would allow him to come down with some contested catches, but just having him around as a downfield burner is also incredibly valuable.

But perhaps transfer addition Aaron Philo can help Brown improve and be even more productive next fall?
It's hard to identify a more obvious breakout talent for Florida than Brown. At least on the offensive side of the ball.
The fact that he received so much playing time — and was so effective — during his freshman campaign speaks volume, and he should be the Gators' No. 1 receiver heading into 2026.
Florida added a handful of wide receivers via the transfer portal, so there will certainly be competition, but you have to figure that Brown will be prioritized.
The Gators ranked just 13th in the SEC in passing offense this past season, so hopefully, the additions they've made — plus the potential breakout of Brown — will elevate their aerial attack to another level next fall.
Much of that will depend on how Philo (assuming he wins the starting job) performs, but Brown will surely be at the center of any major improvement in Gainesville.
