The Gators aren't stopping, and coach Jon Sumrall is laser-focused on attempting to bring the best recruiting class possible to Gainesville.
The hunt is never over, and for the Florida Gators, they still have their eyes on one of the nation’s top recruits.
Wide receiver Easton Royal is a five-star prospect out of New Orleans, who committed to Texas back in November.
However, the Gators have maintained contact with Royal throughout the process, and are making a push to poach the talented receiver.
Royal has visited Gainesville a handful of times, including June 11 for an official visit and afterwards made a comment that may raise your eyebrows.
Rivals’ recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman spoke to Royal, and the receiver didn't hold back on his admiration for Florida coach Jon Sumrall.
“Personally, I do favor Sumrall a little bit,” Royal said. “He’s got some Louisiana spice to him. He’s really outgoing, and it feels like a family. If I were to go there, he’d be an extension of family. At the end of the day, we’re all his sons, and he pours into us. Coach Sumrall is gonna get after you every day and he’s gonna get the most out of you.”
In another interview with Swamp247, Royal spoke incredibly highly of the program.
"Florida's probably the only school that I know with five receiver coaches, and some people may think that's a bad thing, but I think that's a really good thing. The best thing about it, there's no egos. So everybody just genuinely wants to see everybody be the best they can be," he said.
He continued, “Just the attention to detail with everything, it's very rare. I feel like everybody, all of the coaches, I feel like they're uncles to me."
Not only that, he went on to sthat he was a major fan of Buster Faulkner’s offense, and that he can see himself thriving in Gainesville.
"That's why they always tell me, if I do decide to come here, I'm an important receiver. I'll be the guy, day one, plug and play, to be able to replace Eric Singleton."
Royal maintained that his mother will have a major impact on his decision, and after his visits were completed, that it was important for them to keep an open mind.
Even if Royal doesn’t end up committing, the Gators still have quality freshman receivers coming in for 2027. Elias Pearl, Tramond Collins, and Anthony Jennings have all committed to Florida.
But even with those commitments, Florida’s push for Royal is awfully telling, and points to what may be on the horizon in Gainesville for years to come.
