Jon Sumrall has only been head coach of the Florida Gators for a couple of months, but he is already making a major impact in Gainesville.
Not only did he convince running back Jadan Baugh and edge rusher Jayden Woods to stick around for 2026, but he also made some striking moves in the transfer portal and is already hitting the recruiting trail hard.
In fact, Sumrall is already getting a head start on 2027 and already has Florida in pole position to land four-star tight end George Lamons Jr.
Lamons visited Gainesville for the school's Junior Day over the weekend and has also set an official visit to Florida, via Tyler Harden of 247 Sports. He will return to Gainesville on May 28.
What's more, Lamons has also revealed that the Gators are his top choice.
The 6-foot-3, 213-pound weapon is the 10th-ranked tight end and the 155th-ranked player in his class, via 247 Sports' composite rankings.
Lamons has also drawn interest from Alabama, Georgia, Miami and Tennessee, among others. He had initially committed to Texas A&M last April before ultimately decommitting a few months later.

Lamons hauled in 63 receptions for 1,340 yards and 20 touchdowns during a fantastic sophomore campaign at Brooks County in 2024. He finished with 30 catches for 399 yards and three scores as a junior this year.
In addition to visiting Florida, Lamons also paid a visit to Florida State for its own Junior Day last week, so even though the Gators are favored, they will face some stiff competition to land the playmaker.
Florida went just 4-8 this past season, representing its fourth losing campaign in five years. It has marked one of the worst stretches in the history of the program.
The Gators fired Billy Napier midway through 2025 and then hired Sumrall in late November. Sumrall had been coaching Tulane, where he went 11-3 and led the Green Wave to a College Football Playoff appearance this year.
Overall, Sumrall has gone 43-12 in four years of head coaching, with his seasons split between Troy and Tulane.
