Florida Gators coach Jon Sumrall has delivered a critical injury update on a key wide receiver.

The Florida Gators' wide receiver room is probably one of the most intriguing parts about the team heading into 2026.

Florida has Vernell Brown returning after an impressive freshman season, and the Gators also added several compelling pieces in the transfer portal, most notably former Auburn receiver Eric Singleton.

But we also cannot forget about Dallas Wilson, who is preparing to enter his second year in Gainesville after missing most of 2025 due to a foot injury that required surgery.

Wilson is a tantalizing prospect. The former four-star recruit stands 6-foot-3, weighs around 215 pounds and possesses tremendous athleticism. He showed some flashes in brief action last season and is definitely a player to watch next fall.

But what is Wilson's status with Florida beginning spring practice?

Head coach Jon Sumrall provided an update on Wilson — who was sidelined as the Gators began practice — this week, and Florida fans will like what they hear.

"He would play if we had a game this week," Sumrall told reporters.

Sumrall added that Wilson was being held out "for an abundance of caution," indicating that he is healthy enough to practice but that the Gators understandably aren't taking any chances.

Wilson managed 12 catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns in 2025, with his best performance coming against Texas when he hauled in six receptions for 111 yards and a pair of scores.

There is no question that the Tampa native is oozing with potential, and so long as he remains healthy, he may very well establish himself as one of Florida's top pass-catchers next season.

Meanwhile, Sumrall is taking over a Gators program that went just 4-8 last season and has posted just one winning campaign over the last five years.

The 43-year-old split the first four years of his head-coaching career between Troy and Tulane, where he went a combined 43-12. Most recently, he led Tulane to an 11-3 record and a College Football Playoff appearance.

Of course, coaching in the SEC is an entirely different ballgame, so we will see if Sumrall is up for the challenge.

Florida will open up against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 5.
