Jon Sumrall is entering his debut campaign as Florida Gators head coach, and big things are expected from him right off the bat.
Sumrall made his mark early with impressive moves in the transfer portal, putting together the 12th-ranked haul in the country, via On 3's transfer portal rankings.
Florida also seems to be ubiquitous on the recruiting trail with Sumrall at the helm, and the atmosphere in Gainesville has just felt different ever since Sumrall initially accepted the head-coaching job back in late November.
Sumrall himself has high expectations of his team heading into 2026, but with spring practice in full swing, the 43-year-old is already worried.
After holding its fourth practice on Tuesday, Sumrall revealed that he is concerned with consistency in terms of physicality and execution with the Gators' spring game looming a month from now.
"I'm a little uncomfortable because we're so far away from where I want us to be," Sumrall said, via Kevin Brockway of The Gainesville Sun. "I'm a little on edge ... we can't be casual, we can't be complacent, lethargic. We have to be urgent and fiery and passionate and we've got to compete every day."

Sumrall has four years of head-coaching experience going into his first year at Florida, having split time between Troy and Tulane. He went 43-12 during that span, most recently leading Tulane to an 11-3 record and a College Football Playoff appearance.
Of course, the SEC is an entirely different animal, so Sumrall will certainly have his work cut out for him trying to get Florida back into contention.
The Gators went just 4-8 last season and have posted just one winning campaign over the last five years, marking one of the worst stretches in program history.
Florida was once one of the top football schools in the nation, but it has since faded into near irrelevancy. We'll see if Sumrall can bring respectability back to The Swamp.
