Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall just told a wild story about running back Jadan Baugh.

When Jon Sumrall accepted the Florida Gators head-coaching position back in late November, he surely knew that a lot of players were going to leave the program.

It's the natural course of action when there is a coaching change. Massive roster turnover occurs, and Sumrall was prepared for it.

While Sumrall understood many players were sure-fire goners, he wanted to make sure that he kept several names in particular, most notably running back Jadan Baugh and edge rusher Jayden Woods.

Sumrall ultimately convinced both to stay, with Woods actually withdrawing his name from the transfer portal after a meeting with Sumrall.

As far as Baugh? Earlier this week, Sumrall told a wild story on how he was able to retain Baugh.

"You want to keep the great players that are already in house and that this place means something to," Sumrall told Andy Staples of On 3. "Jadan Baugh, I did an in-home visit on Christmas Eve, don't know if I've ever done that before."

Clearly, Sumrall badly wanted to keep Baugh in Gainesville, and it worked.

"It was a whirlwind of a time," Sumrall added.

Baugh racked up 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns on 5.3 yards per carry in 2025, also catching 33 passes for 210 yards and a couple of scores.

The Atlanta native arrived at Florida in 2024 and had a strong freshman showing, registering 673 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 5.1 yards per attempt.

Last year, however, Baugh established himself as one of the top running backs in the SEC and is now viewed as a potential top talent in the 2027 NFL Draft.

In fact, there are some who are even wondering if Baugh can put his name in the first round conversation next spring.

Of course, it will take a tremendous junior campaign from Baugh, but based on how well he played in 2025, there is no reason to believe why he can't continue his ascension next fall.

Florida went just 4-8 last season and has posted just one winning campaign over the last five years. Hopefully, Sumrall can turn things around in the Swamp. He went 43-12 in four seasons split between Troy and Tulane.
