The Florida Gators' quarterback room is full of questions heading into 2026. They lost DJ Lagway in the transfer portal, but added Aaron Philo to complete with Tramell Jones for the starting job next season.
While head coach Jon Sumrall seems to really like Philo, neither Philo nor Jones appear all that exciting. So it's entirely possible that Florida is just biding its time under center.
Now that Sumrall is in Gainesville, things appear to be heating up on the recruiting trail for the Gators, and Florida is making great headway on a thrilling potential quarterback addition: four-star recruit Champ Monds.
Monds recently paid a visit to Gainesville, and he seems to really like the direction in which the Gators are headed with Sumrall now leading the charge. At least that's what Steve Wiltfong of On 3 revealed during a recent episode of Wiltfong Whiparound.
"I love where the Gators are positioned," Wiltfong said.
Wiltfong also dove into some of points of his discussion with Monds, and it certainly appears that Florida is in the driver's seat to land him.

It also helps that Monds is a native of Vero Beach, so he would be able to stay close to home if he took his talents to the Gators.
Monds is the 17th-ranked quarterback in his class, via 247 Sports' composite rankings. He is a true dual threat with tremendous arm talent and athleticism, so Florida would certainly be lucky to land him.
The 6-foot-2, 224-pound signal-caller was originally the top-ranked player at his position in the class of 2028, but he decided to reclassify to 2027.
Monds has also received major interest from big-name schools like LSU, Ohio State and Tennessee, so the Gators will certainly have some fierce competition to nab him.
Florida previously thought it had bagged a top-of-the-line prospect in Lagway, but Lagway spent two disappointing seasons in Gainesville before departing via the transfer portal this winter.
Perhaps the Gators can right that wrong by bringing in Monds.
