The Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall continued their recent success in the 2027 recruiting class earlier this week with a three-star target announcing his commitment to the program.
The Florida Gators and newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall have been on a tear in the 2027 recruiting class as of late.
Since joining the program, the former Tulane Green Waves head coach has quickly built one of the most impressive high school recruiting classes, making it a perfect parlay alongside his incredible efforts within the transfer portal. Luckily for Sumrall and Gators, the recent success has led to a new batch of recruits announcing their commitment to the program heading into the summer.
According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Friday night, 2027 three-star defensive lineman Cain Van Norden has committed to the Gators over the likes of the Georgia Bulldogs, the Ole Miss Rebels, and the Maryland Terrapins.

[Alan Youngblood/Gainesville Sun]Van Norden, the most recent commit for Sumrall’s first-ever recruiting class with the Gators, is one of the more underrated prospects in the upcoming class. As of this month, the three-star defender is currently the No. 83 prospect in the 2027 class, as well as the No. 19-ranked prospect in the state of Maryland, per 247Sports’ Composite.
While Florida and Sumrall were able to land Van Norden, the program was one of the last schools to offer him during his recruitment journey. Still, despite Florida’s late push that began in March of this year, the result ultimately ended with Van Norden joining the rising SEC program.
Now, following the commitment of Van Norden, the Gators have quickly built one of the best recruiting classes in the nation heading into the dog days of the summer. Currently, Florida’s 2027 class ranks 7th amongst all FBS programs, while also possessing a total of 15 commits, according to 247Sports.
Looking at the class as a whole, the group of prospects is led by five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller, who recently announced his commitment in April. Sumrall has done a terrific job of building up the Gators’ offensive line for the future, with three of the top four commits in the 2027 class being linemen.
However, the coaching staff has begun to shift its focus to the defensive side of the ball, as Florida landed both Van Norden and fellow three-star defensive linemen Stive-Bentley Keumajou Yondui during the month of May.
