The Florida Gators are looking to rebuild their program under new head coach Jon Sumrall after a rather disastrous five-year stretch, and Sumrall is off to a quick start.
Sumrall has already secured 15 commitments via the transfer portal, and most recently, he landed one of the more intriguing weapons available: former East Carolina running back London Montgomery.
In 12 games this past season, Montgomery rushed for 742 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. He also logged 15 catches for 76 yards.
The former three-star recruit actually began his collegiate career at Penn State in 2023 and redshirted his freshman season. He spent just one year with the Nittany Lions before ultimately transferring to East Carolina.
During his first season with the Pirates, Montgomery finished with 359 yards and a couple of scores on the ground, recording 5.1 yards per attempt.
Montgomery totaled 1,101 rushing yards throughout his tenure at East Carolina.
The speedster will join a Florida backfield that is also celebrating the return of star halfback Jadan Baugh, who initially entered the transfer portal this winter but decided to head back to the Gators.

The Gators ranked 12th in the SEC in rushing offense even with Baugh's brilliant showing this past season, so they definitely needed to add some depth to their backfield. Plus, Florida has lost four running backs to the transfer portal itself.
Sumrall has done fine work on the backfield while also addressing other areas of need throughout the portal.
It's important to remember that the Gators have lost 30 players to the transfer portal in total, which is to be expected with a coaching change.
Florida went just 4-8 in 2025 and has posted four losing campaigns over its last five years. Sumrall, meanwhile, split his four years of coaching between Troy and Tulane, going 43-12 between those two stops. He led the Green Wave to an 11-3 record and a CFP appearance this season.
