Florida Gators legend Urban Meyer has delivered a bold take on Jon Sumrall.
The Florida Gators hired Jon Sumrall to be their new head coach back in late November, and the move was generally met with rave reviews.
Count Florida legend Urban Meyer among those who love the decision.
Meyer recently took to social media to reveal his top three head-coaching hires of the offseason, and while Michigan's decision to land Kyle Whittingham came in at No. 1, he had the Gators' move for Sumrall ranked No. 2.
It's hard to argue with Meyer or anyone else who has expressed such strongly positive opinions about Florida bringing in Sumrall.
After all, Sumrall went 43-12 across four seasons between Troy and Tulane, most recently leading Tulane to an 11-3 record and a College Football Playoff appearance.
Sumrall has also done a tremendous job recovering from losing 31 players in the transfer portal, securing commitments from 20 transfers himself.
The 43-year-old has been so impressive in the portal, as a matter of fact, that On 3 has ranked Florida's haul eighth among in the country No. 3 in the SEC behind Texas A&M and Ole Miss.

And if anyone would know anything about how to coach Florida football, it's Meyer.
Meyer famously spent six seasons with the Gators between 2005 and 2010, winning a pair of national championships in 2006 and 2008. He posted three 13-win campaigns at Florida, going 65-15 overall.
Before arriving at Gainesville, Meyer had previously coached Bowling Green and Utah, leading the Utes to an undefeated 12-0 season in 2004.
Then, after coaching Florida, Meyer made his way to Ohio State, where he spent seven years and captured another national title.
Meyer went 187-32 overall throughout his illustrious career, establishing himself as one of the best head coaches in college football history.
Meanwhile, the Gators went just 4-8 in 2025 and have registered four losing campaigns over the last five seasons. We'll see if Sumrall can step in and turn around the program.
