The Gators are locked in a high-stakes SEC recruiting battle with the nation's top 2028 recruit, betting on culture and coaching to secure him.
The Florida Gators are in the midst of a recruiting battle for the nation’s top recruit in the 2028 class.
Wide receiver Brysen Wright has had numerous programs vying for his services, but according to Rivals’ Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons, there are two programs that have stood out to him.
One of them being Florida, and the other being Texas.
Wright plans to visit Texas during the September 12 battle against Ohio State, while he comes to Gainesville two weeks later, when the Gators take on Ole Miss.
This won’t be the first occasion that Wright appears on both campuses. Florida wide receiver coach Marcus Davis has made it a priority to bring in the dynamic prospect.
"Meeting the Florida staff, the brand-new staff was good," Wright’s father Colby told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong in June. "Marcus Davis is a solid guy. I like Marcus. It was good to meet Sumrall. We've heard a lot of good things about him. We'll see how it all comes together this fall."
Getting in a recruiting battle with Texas will be a challenge though.
The Longhorns have developed a reputation for being uber-aggressive with players they value, while having significant resources at their disposal when it comes to NIL.
But Florida believes the foundation it is building in Gainesville can give it a chance to compete with programs that may be able to offer more financially.
Wright would be an ideal fit for a program with a new coaching staff that’s trying to establish its identity in the SEC.
With his 6-foot-3, 210 pound frame, Wright has a similar frame to current Florida WR Dallas Wilson, yet he plays a much different style of game.
Wright plays with more explosiveness and twitch, and hardly seems overwhelmed by upperclassmen.
Rivals’ Charles Power writes in his scouting report on Wright, “Shows early signs of possessing transcendent ball skills, with the ability to make incredible in-air adjustments, contorting his body to come down with difficult grabs. Possesses extremely strong hands and consistently dunks on defenders in jump ball situations. Looked to take a positive step with his speed and route-running, showing the ability to earn separation.”
Wright’s visits to Texas and Florida could go a long way toward determining whether this becomes a two-team race for the nation’s top recruit. The Gators have already made an impression, and now they’ll have another opportunity to show Wright why Gainesville could be the right home for him.
