The Florida Gators may very well have found their next Tim Tebow in a current freshman quarterback.
The Florida Gators have been a program in need of a major turnaround for years. Gone are the days of being a yearly National Championship contender, but the program is hoping to see new head coach Jon Sumrall change that.
What seems like ages ago, the Gators were one of the most feared teams in college football. Tim Tebow is a distant memory, but an era that fans remember fondly.
One of the main issues in recent years for Florida has been lack of elite quarterback play. Finding a signal caller who can come in and dominate the college football world like Tebow did has been a priority.
With that being said, the Gators may very well have found their next Tebow.
According to one SEC recruiting coordinator who spoke to Gators Roundtable, current freshman quarterback Will Griffin has given off some Tebow vibes.
"I'm never going to compare anyone to Tebow, but I think (Will) Griffin has the potential to have that kind of impact," the coordinator said.
"He's a big kid with a strong arm. Just like Tebow, Griffin uses his physical ability and athleticism to make plays on the ground and is a local high school legend just like Tebow. Griffin has a lot of work to do, but he has the potential to be a program changer for Florida."
Standing in at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Griffin has big-time potential for Sumrall and the Gators.
Rivals had him ranked as a four-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and he was ranked the No. 19 quarterback prospect in the nation.
Florida had to work hard to secure a commitment from him. He was pursued by other high-profile programs like Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan, and Texas to name a few.
Throughout his senior season at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida, according to MaxPreps, Griffin completed 65 percent of his passes for 2,534 yards, 37 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. He also ran for 296 yards and six more scores.
Hopefully, Sumrall and the Florida football program have their long-term quarterback in Griffin. He has turned some heads already. Simply being named in the same sentence as a Gators legend like Tebow is an impressive amount of praise.
