What was supposed to be an anticipatory commitment on July 1, the University of Florida will have to wait another week from one of its top targets.
The University of Florida will have to wait another week on top target Raheem Floyd’s decision.
The four-star cornerback out of East St. Louis, IL was originally set to announce his commitment on July 1, but because of a state rule, that has been pushed back to July 7.
Floyd has been one of Florida’s top recruiting targets for months, and he’s been predicted to land in Florida by several top pundits like Steve Wiltfong, Allan Trieu and Sam Spiegelman.
However, because of the date being pushed back, it allows competitors to sneak back into the fold.
Anything can happen in this era of college football, and we’ve seen predictions be wrong before. Along with Florida, the defensive back also has Missouri and Ole Miss as his other two options.
Ole Miss has been on fire recruiting as of late, securing commitments from four four-star prospects, with two of them being on the defensive line.
On the other hand, Missouri is the team that he grew up watching, and its track record of developing defensive backs could be enticing.
Earlier in June after his visit to Gainesville, Floyd spoke with Gator Country’s Andrew Spivey and was over the moon when describing his visit.
“The highlights, just being here with the coaches, they have great coaches here,” Floyd said. “It’s a great facility and a great place to be. I feel like they can win a national championship and it would be a great place to be.”
When asked what stood out to him on his visit, Floyd was gushing over the energy the program exuded.
“Just being out here with the family and them all having a good time. Then watching OTAs, just seeing how they practice, seeing how fast pace it is and how intense it is. It’s great energy on the field and I feel like it’s a beautiful place to play.”
Florida already has a deep recruiting class for 2027, led by five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller, as well as 17 four-star recruits.
Currently, the Gators have the sixth-ranked class in the country, and a commitment from Floyd will only boost them into the top-five.
