Florida Gators Receive Bold Prediction Ahead of 2026 Season

The Florida Gators enter the 2026 season with more promise as they have hired Jon Sumrall as the new head coach of the offense.

Sumrall comes over after having a ton of success during his time at Troy and Tulane. He was the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2022 and recorded a 23-4 record during his time at Troy. 

He then moved to Tulane and posted a 20-8 record, including a College Football Playoff appearance in the 2025 season.

Sumrall brought in a ton of talent through the transfer portal, giving them a chance to bounce back after going 4-8 in 2025.

Ahead of the 2026 season, the Gators ranked 31st among all the college football programs in The Athletic's list. Florida will rely on Sumrall's coaching prowess and the incoming transfers to lead a turnaround.

Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo comes in as the new starting quarterback for the Gators. Philo only appeared in eight games during his two years at Georgia Tech, completing 59 of 102 passes (57.8 percent) for 938 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also added 95 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

They will need Philo to become a consistent passer for the offense to make a major leap.

Running back Jadan Baugh will also play a big role in the offense. In the 2024 season, Baugh rushed for 673 yards and seven touchdowns while hauling in four receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown.

He became a star in his sophomore campaign, rushing for 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns with 33 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns. 

The Gators will lean heavily on the run game and the development of Philo as their quarterback to have a successful 2026 season. Florida will have their work cut out for them to have a winning season with other SEC contenders, including Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and more.

Hiring Sumrall gives Florida some promise moving forward as the Gators look to reestablish themselves as one of the best programs in college football.
