The Florida Gators have received a notable update from a top quarterback recruit.
The Florida Gators certainly have some questions under center heading into the 2026 college football season.
Following DJ Lagway's decision to bolt Gainesville for the transfer portal over the winter, Florida responded by poaching Aaron Philo from Georgia Tech, which made sense because the Gators also hired former Yellow Jackets offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner.
But is Philo actually the answer?
While the redshirt sophomore is the favorite to win the starting job, Florida is holding an open quarterback competition in camp, and Tramell Jones Jr. seems like a threat to beat out Philo.
Surely, the Gators would like to have more certainty at the position moving forward, which is why they are making a serious push for five-star 2028 recruit Kingston Preyear.
Obviously, 2028 is well into the future, but it never hurts to have your ducks in a row, and considering how aggressive Jon Sumrall has been since taking over as head coach in late November, it's not surprising he is getting an early start.

While speaking to Tyler Harden of 247 Sports, Preyear — who visited The Swamp in late January and met with the Gators again on Friday — still has Florida No. 1.
"I’ve built a true relationship with all the coaches," Preyear said.
The Alexander City, Al. product is the third-ranked quarterback and the 29th-ranked player overall in the class of 2028, via 247 Sports' composite rankings.
Preyear threw for 3,026 yards, 34 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 61.8 percent of his passes during his sophomore campaign at Benjamin Russell last season. He also rushed for 518 yards and a couple of scores.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound dual threat is oozing with potential and could very well be Florida's signal-caller come the fall of 2028.
Preyear has received offers from 16 schools, with Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Ole Miss and Tennessee among them.
We'll see if the Gators — who made an offer to Preyear on Jan. 14 — can remain on top and ultimately emerge the victors.
