The Florida Gators have landed some big news regarding the quarterback position.

The Florida Gators have some uncertainty under center heading into 2026, as Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones Jr. are battling it out for the starting quarterback job.

Philo — a Georgia Tech transfer — appears to be the favorite, especially considering Florida brought in former Yellow Jackets offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner to call plays, but there are no sure-fire guarantees.

The Gators are also still reeling from the DJ Lagway experiment, which Jon Sumrall never actually got to experience.

So, yeah: the quarterback situation has not been ideal in Florida for quite some time.

Things could be changing, however.

This week, the Gators received a commitment from four-star 2027 quarterback Davin Davidson, with the top prospect choosing Florida over Georgia.

It was massive news for the Gators ... figuratively and literally.

Davidson stands nearly 6-foot-7 while weighing 215 pounds, so to say that he possesses elite size for the position would be an understatement.

The Sarasota, Fl. native has tremendous arm talent, and while he may not be a true dual threat, he has enough mobility to make plays with his legs.

Florida initially made an offer to Davidson back in January. He received 32 offers in total, also including Colorado, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina and Notre Dame.

Davidson is the 13th-ranked signal-caller and the 154th-ranked player overall in his class, via 247 Sports' composite rankings. He is also the 15th-ranked player in the state of Florida.

This marks the fifth commitment the Gators have landed for the class of 2027. They also bagged five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller earlier in the week and have secured commitments from four-star cornerback Amare Nugent, four-star wide receiver Tramond Collins and three-star tight end Jackson Ballinger.

Sumrall has definitely gotten off to a hot start in his first several months as Florida's head coach.

He took the job in late November and proceeded to put together one of the better transfer portal hauls in the country, with On 3 ranking the Gators ninth in its transfer portal rankings.

Sumrall also convinced numerous key players to remain at Florida, and he has clearly been very busy on the recruiting trail.
