Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators have scored a massive win on the recruiting trail.
When Jon Sumrall took over as Florida Gators head coach back in late November, there was immediate excitement in Gainesville.
Florida was in desperate need of a boost following a miserable 4-8 campaign and a horrific five-year stretch in general, and Sumrall seemed like the man for the job.
Thus far, it's hard to argue with the results.
Sumrall put together a terrific transfer portal haul, so impressive that On 3 placed the Gators ninth in its transfer portal rankings.
Not only that, but the 43-year-old convinced key players like running back Jadan Baugh, wide receiver Vernell Brown and edge rusher Jayden Woods to stay.
Sumrall has also been very active on the recruiting trail, with Florida's name being rather ubiquitous when it comes to being in the mix for the nation's top prospects.
Well, this week, Sumrall struck gold in that category, securing a commitment from five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound star had 31 offers overall, but chose the Gators over schools like Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon and Tennessee, among others.
Hiller visited Florida twice, and clearly, Sumrall and the rest of the Gators' coaching staff made a lasting impression on the Coatesville, Pa. native.
Florida has now bagged four commitments for the class of 2027, with the other three being four-star cornerback Amare Nugent, three-star wide receiver Tramond Collins and three-star tight end Jackson Ballinger.
Sumrall split the first four years of his head-coaching career between Troy and Tulane, going 43-12 during that span. Most recently, he led Tulane to an 11-3 record and a College Football Playoff appearance.
Of course, coaching in the SEC is an entirely different ballgame, so we will have to see if Sumrall is up for the challenge. So far, though, it appears that Sumrall is more than ready for the rigors of a Power-4 conference.
Florida will open up its 2026 regular season against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 5.
